Pictured below second from the from left, Jami poses with her family alongside her husband Josh to her right, and her daughters Breckyn (on the far left), and Haddie (on the far right).
Sharecare takes pride in our many colleagues, friends, family, and clients who are veterans, and we extend our deepest gratitude for their service to our country. Among the many remarkable individuals we honored this month for Veterans Day, is our November Employee Spotlight – who is not only a veteran herself but also brings her unique perspective to help Sharecare to support veterans in receiving the care they need at home.
Meet Jami Veskerna, a US Army veteran and operations team manager at Sharecare, supporting our home care programs for the Department of Veterans Affairs. When asked about these innovative healthcare programs, Jami shared her gratitude for the opportunity to use her unique skills and experiences to positively impact the lives of veterans and their families. “CareLinx has provided a platform for me to serve our military veteran families where I am able to honor their service and sacrifice with dignity, compassion, and empathy,” Jami explained, underscoring her gratitude for a supportive and fulfilling work environment – where she’s able to continue to serve others.
Thanks to Jami and the entire CareLinx team, Sharecare is able to provide respite care to a portion of the 5.5 million veteran family members in the US who are caregivers. (ICYMI, Home Health Care News also recently wrote about Sharecare‘s respite care work on behalf of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs earlier this month.)
This month we hope you’ll join us in celebrating Jami – as well as all of the military service members in the Sharecare family! Read more about her in the interview below.
What is your official title, and what do you do in your role?
I’m an operations manager at CareLinx by Sharecare. In this role, I oversee processes, people, and performance, ensuring smooth operations and alignment with our goals. I focus on improving efficiency, tracking key metrics, and fostering a supportive, growth-oriented team culture.
One challenge is balancing the needs of multiple teams, projects, and stakeholders while maintaining team focus and managing change effectively. To overcome this, it’s important to stay organized, set clear priorities, and create actionable strategies for my team to follow. When it comes to managing change, I want my team to know they are heard and show the reason behind the changes.
What do you love about working at Sharecare?
Helping my team succeed, learn, and grow is the best part of my job. Seeing their achievements and knowing I had a hand in their progress is deeply fulfilling. My team is passionate, resilient, and mission-driven. We focus on fostering a collaborative, supportive environment where everyone’s contributions are valued.
My days are fast-paced and collaborative. They include teamwork, process improvement meetings, lots of Excel spreadsheets/ metric tracking and reporting, and motivating my team to achieve their best. Each day brings new opportunities to make an impact. Movement keeps me energized—whether it’s using my treadmill desk (literally would be lost without it) or staying busy with tasks. I thrive when there’s variety (chaos) in my day, which keeps me motivated.
What was your first job ever?
I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in an Alzheimer’s unit while in high school. It taught me empathy, resilience, and the value of caring for others.
What was the path that led you to join our company?
I was in social work, started in Hospice, and finished in Adoption, which gave me a strong foundation in helping others. After COVID-19 I found myself burnt out and needing a new challenge, I transitioned to remote work, finding my passion in healthcare technology. I held roles as a supervisor in HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) Audit Record Retrieval and Medical Claims Processing, which eventually led me to CareLinx by Sharecare.
What’s the best career advice you’ve been given?
“Don’t be afraid to fail; failure is just a stepping stone to success.” This mindset has encouraged me to take risks, embrace challenges, and grow through every experience. My newest favorite saying at CareLinx is “Fail fast. Learn fast. Improve fast. Sharecare’s leadership team encourages me to take risks, not be afraid to fail, and never stop learning.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I love being outdoors. In the summer, you’ll find me at the lake with my family, boating and hiking. In the winter, I enjoy cozying up by the fire with a good mystery thriller novel. My ideal way to spend a day off would be a mix of relaxation and adventure: a morning hike in the mountains, followed by a lazy afternoon by the lake with my family, ending with a cozy evening reading by the fire.
I love our yearly family trips to the mountains. Being surrounded by the beauty of nature and spending uninterrupted time with loved ones is priceless. I’d love to take my family to explore Europe, particularly Iceland, for its natural beauty and unique culture.
It’s also on my bucket list to run a marathon. Long-distance running helps keep me physically healthy while taking time for myself and staying organized helps me manage stress and maintain balance.
Are there any causes or passion projects that are important to you?
Advocating for veterans and their caregivers is a cause close to my heart. Additionally, I’m passionate about leadership development and mentoring others.
Leading the VA-TERHM program has been my biggest and most rewarding highlight thus far. The relationships my team builds with veterans and their caregivers are incredibly impactful, showing us our “why” every day.
What’s something few people know about you?
I dream of writing a novel someday—likely a thriller, inspired by my love for suspense and murder docuseries and TV shows (my favorites; 20/20, Snapped, Dateline, 48 hours)
What achievement are you most proud of?
Growing in my leadership role while showing my daughters that success is attainable for women who are driven and focused. Breaking glass ceilings is something I’m proud to model for them as their mother.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life and why?
My husband has been my biggest influence. He has taught me resilience, the importance of hard work, and to always believe in myself, no matter the challenge. He’s my biggest supporter.
What’s the theme song to your life? Why?
“Don’t Stop” Fleetwood Mac—A classic anthem of perseverance and optimism. It’s a song about embracing change and moving forward. Plus, Fleetwood Mac is my favorite!
What’s your favorite place in the world?
Estes Park, Colorado—it’s where my heart feels most at peace.
