The inaugural recipient of ACLM’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Dean Ornish, often referred to as the modern-day “Founding Father” of the field of lifestyle medicine, casts a big, bold vision about the future of medicine in the U.S. and around the world—reflecting back on the past 25 years, acknowledging how far lifestyle medicine has come, and what lies ahead.
Receiving CMS approval for Medicare coverage of the Ornish ICR Program was a 16-year journey. Barriers were broken to pave the way for the manifestation of ACLM’s vision for lifestyle medicine being the foundation of heath and all health care. As we face a looming pandemic of Alzheimer’s, we’ll look at the latest research findings that evidence the impact of lifestyle factors on the prevention and progression of the disease. Lifestyle medicine’s unifying theory underscores the urgency for lifestyle therapeutic approaches to be at the forefront of all clinical care, with the outcome goal of health restoration.
