SharecareNow Names the Top 10 Influencers of Online Infertility Conversation

Atlanta, GA and San Francisco, CA – April 23, 2012 – In support of the estimated 10 million Americans affected by infertility, SharecareNow, powered by WCG, today announced “SharecareNow 10 – Infertility,” a list of the most prominent experts and patients driving online conversation around infertility and helping to educate individuals about this medical condition.

The release of the SharecareNow 10 – Infertility list coincides with National Infertility Awareness Week®, a nationwide campaign led by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, in an effort to raise awareness about the possible causes for infertility, enhance public knowledge about various treatment options and educate legislators about the severity of the disease.

“Infertility is a condition affecting millions of people in America and while it is most often associated with women, many people don’t know that men are also at an equal risk,” said Jeff Arnold, chairman and CEO of Sharecare. “That’s why it’s important that men and women have easy access to credible online experts or other individuals coping with infertility to share experiences, empower others with information, learn about different treatment options, and find comfort in knowing that they’re not alone in their journey to become parents.”

In the United States alone, approximately one in every eight couples will be affected by infertility.1 In fact, about 10 percent of women in the U.S. aged 15 to 44 years old have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant.2 However, 85 to 95 percent of infertility cases can be treated by adopting healthy lifestyle habits or undergoing conventional medical therapies such as medication and surgery.3

Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system that is often diagnosed after a couple is unable to conceive following at least one year of unprotected intercourse or unable to carry a pregnancy to a live birth. A variety of physical or emotional factors may contribute to infertility for both men and women, which is why the SharecareNow 10 – Infertility list and organizations like RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association aim to promote reproductive health by providing helpful tools and resources for all individuals experiencing infertility or other reproductive disorders.

In order to be included in the SharecareNow 10 – Infertility list, influencers must have demonstrated a consistent impact on infertility-specific conversations online over the past year. An individual’s influence is measured and quantified through a proprietary algorithm based on more than 40 individual metrics, including infertility relevance, syndication, presence and reach. These influencers are then ranked from most to least influential based on a unique scoring structure.

The following top influencers make up the SharecareNow 10 – Infertility list:
