First-of-its-kind awards to honor excellence in health and wellness productions and programming; call for entries open through December 15
ATLANTA/NEW YORK (October 9, 2018)– Sharecare, the digital health company that helps people manage all their health in one place, today announced that it is launching the Sharecare Awards, a first-of-its-kind awards competition designed to inspire and honor the creators of health and wellness related broadcast and digital media productions and programming that demonstrate “sharing care.” The Sharecare Awards is in association with The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter, which fosters creativity and inspires artistic and technical excellence through the renowned Emmy® Award. The call for entries in the Sharecare Awards is now open and runs through December 15, 2018.
“We are proud to partner with Sharecare to honor the most remarkable achievements in health and science programming and reporting, including those made by our New York Regional Emmy® Award nominees,” said Denise Rover, president of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter. “We salute Sharecare’s leadership and their colleagues for their tireless efforts in establishing this special program that recognizes excellence in covering today’s most important health issues and initiatives.”
The Sharecare Awards aims to promote and reward excellence for the best health and wellness related programming across broadcast and digital media, including campaigns, documentaries, mobile apps, original reporting, podcasts, series and shorts in each of the following ten categories:
- Behavioral health
- Caregiving/end of life
- Chronic conditions
- Healthy living
- Innovation
- Policy and community health
- Sexuality/gender identity
- Health/science: news
- Health/science: program/feature segment
- Health/science: program/special
In January 2019, finalists in each category will be announced and public voting will open for the Sharing Care Award, a special award bestowed to the category finalist who receives the most votes from the general public.
The inaugural Sharecare Awards will culminate on Thursday, March 14, 2019, with a special event in Atlanta that will be streamed via Facebook Live. In addition to honoring finalists and announcing winners for each category and the Sharing Care Award, three additional awards – two Humanitarian Awards, one to an individual and the other to an organization, and a Lifetime Achievement Award – will be presented at the event.
“Sharecare’s mission is rooted in the spirit of ‘sharing care,’ be it through our strategic partners including large employers like Walmart and leading health plans like Highmark and CareFirst, or health-conscious consumers who have joined the Sharecare Movement,” said Dawn Whaley, president of Sharecare. “We are grateful for the partnership of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter, in launching the Sharecare Awards, and look forward to receiving entries from and celebrating those using their creativity, expertise and talents to make a demonstrable difference in the lives of others.”
All award entries will be reviewed by the Sharecare Awards Academy of Judges, a carefully curated team of healthcare and media experts. Once the Academy’s finalist selections are announced in January 2019, a noteworthy panel of judges who will determine each category’s winner will be revealed.
The Sharecare Awards are operated through the Sharecare Foundation, a nonprofit entity that Sharecare established solely in support of this awards program. Instructions for submitting award entries and more can be found at https://sharecareawards.org.
