American Dietetic Association Joins Sharecare as New Content Collaborator to Help Patients Improve Diet, Nutrition and Health

(Atlanta, GA – June 7, 2011) – In a collaborative effort to tackle the increasing epidemics of malnutrition and excessive weight gain, Sharecare.com, an expert question and answer (QA) platform providing patients with answers to their health and wellness questions, today announced the addition of the American Dietetic Association to its robust network of trusted healthcare experts.

The world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, ADA will enhance Sharecare’s knowledge base by providing consumers the opportunity to consult registered dietitians through Sharecare.com. As the food and nutrition experts, registered dietitians can address many health and nutrition topics—from food safety and childhood nutrition to healthy eating plans and weight management—in order to help consumers make healthier lifestyle choices. For example, experts can now answer questions about how people can make healthier meal choices based on the government’s recently released new “MyPlate” icon, replacing the food pyramid. “ADA is committed to helping people live a healthy life in order to decrease the risk for developing life-threatening diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis,” said registered dietitian and American Dietetic Association President Sylvia Escott-Stump. “Through our collaboration with Sharecare, registered dietitians will be able to answer a broad spectrum of people’s nutrition and health questions.”

Online health searches are the third most popular web activity according to a recent survey conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. In addition to Questions of the Day, articles and daily tips are currently available through ADA’s website www.eatright.org. Through its collaboration with Sharecare, ADA will expand its reach and help consumers quickly find answers to their personal health questions, encouraging them to take the necessary actions towards healthier living.

“Empowering consumers with the necessary information and tools to improve their health by way of diet and nutrition is especially important during a time when unhealthy weight gain is at the crux of many debilitating diseases,” said Jeff Arnold, Chairman and Chief Architect of Sharecare. “With ADA joining our thousands of expert content partners, consumers now have access to valuable and life-saving information to incorporate into a more active health and wellness plan and to discuss with their doctors.”
